The Before and During of an Interview
- The interview time is finally here after all that
applications. So, prepare well!
- Before attending an interview, research on the potential
employer’s business, needs, the culture. Then ask yourself: how could I be of value
to them? Obviously by this time you already know that this is an organization you
would like to work for , otherwise you would not have applied to it.
- First impression is important. Be well dressed, confident
and courteous.
- You should be able to sell yourself during the interview
process. Never act like a desperate job seeker but as a confident “solution provider”
to the potential employer’s problems and needs.
- Try not to speak too much or too little. Always be
direct and to the point.
- Be prepared to answer the following questions:
-
Why should you be hired as oppose to the others?
-
Do you really want this job?
-
Why do you want to leave your current job?
- If you are able to answer those questions and understand
the employers needs, you will be able to satisfy the clients expectations and discover
the unique abilities about yourself.
- Never criticise your current or past employers.
- Don’t be mistaken that an interview is a one-way process
of being questioned. It’s a two way process. If you are unclear, always ask questions
ie the role, responsibilities, expectations, challenges.
- Above all, always be yourself! Don’t pretend to be
someone else.
- After interview, always send a “thank you” note via
email or by mail to the interviewer. This will make you stand out compared to the
rest of the applicants.
